Write Your Story: Colum McCann
Presented by the Leopold Writing Program in partnership with the Santa Fe International Literary Festival.
“I think literature can make familiar the unfamiliar, and the unfamiliar is very much about the dispossessed, and so the value of literature seems to me to go into the stories that not everybody wants to tell.”
― Colum McCann What have you read lately that has drawn you in because it made you uncomfortable? What about the work made you uncomfortable and how did you navigate this?

I read girl, interrupted and it made me feel uncomfortable because it felt like someone saw me naked. Like a friend would if they’d bathe with me in the river and scrub my back. I navigated this by diving right in, into the river of life and swam along side in it with my crazy sisters.
