― Miranda July, All Fours

I keep my mind open
Elaine Waxer
May 17, 2025

I keep my mind open by taking painting, drawing, and technology classes from the local community college's emeritus program. I have also taken a journaling and a watercolor workshop from the Sherman Library and Gardens. I am in a drawing workshop at the Laguna Art Museum. I also attend the speaker's lecture series at the Newport Beach Public Library.

These activities expand my imagination and allow me to meet interesting people. I love to write personal stories on Substack and read other members' posts. I recently wrote my first poem inspired by writer Meghan O’Reilly. I go to protest rallies with my sign, making fun of Musk and Trump, who are destroying our constitutional democracy.

These are my activities. Who I am is a caring, curious, and adventurous woman who is making the most of the time I have left.
Of listening to itchy feet
Elaine Hullihen
May 17, 2025

Of listening to itchy feet. To saying yes if I'm not sure but also to saying no if I need to cocoon. A practice of a practice of pausing judgment.

I engage with nature
Susan Rhoades
May 18, 2025

I engage with nature: hiking, snowshoeing, and gardening. This offers many opportunities to wonder at the ways that life is interconnected through the seasons, location, and interdependence.
