Nina A. Simon
Nina A. Simon fell in love with New Mexico at a young age. Growing up on the East Coast, her annual visits to family in Albuquerque were the highlights of her summers. Following graduation from Skidmore College with a B.A. in Creative Writing and a brief stint in New York City, she moved to Albuquerque to work for a maternal health equity nonprofit. Nina’s professional background has been split between nonprofit management, freelance writing, and food and beverage service. She began her nonprofit career in maternal health, working first as a birth doula and then shifting to administrative roles for a variety of maternal health and direct service organizations. In the ten years that Nina has been working in the nonprofit sector, she has worked with organizations including Birthing Project USA, Casa Q, and the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force.
In the summer months Nina manages a small-scale ice cream company, Mud Honey Creamery. Founded in 2021, the concept for the business arose out of Nina’s love of foraging and interest in learning about the surprisingly large selection of edible flora in the Southwest. Since moving to New Mexico she has founded two creative writing groups and has attended writing workshops throughout the country. Nina is invested in being a part of and cultivating a writing community in Albuquerque and is excited to see how that community grows.
